This story behind Phaelar is a long one. Phaelar is a thief in one of the campaigns I play in. The player purchased this figure shortly after the campaign began with intentions of painting it.
After some play, another player in the group offered to do some sculpting on the figure. The original figure had several features, such as a punching dagger and a two-handed sword across its back. This second player, removed the sword, added the backpack, removed the punching dagger, and added a cod-piece. Phaelar liked to keep his jewels in his codpiece.
The player who did the sculpting left the group and for along time, Phaelar was left unpainted. He was silver with a green backpack and pubic region.
When I finally decided to paint the figure for him, one thing I was unhappy with was the figures head. So I decapitated Phaelar and gave him a head from wood elf sprew. Phaelar was half-elf so it seemed ok.
When I asked the player to describe what Phaelar looked like, he was of coarse dressed in dark colors, as any self-respecting thief should be. He described the cloak as giving him a bonus to hide, so something that was like camouflage. I decided to paint one side of the cloak like stones, and the other like branches. The idea was he would turn it around when he switched environments.
I decided to make the "studs" oh Phaelar's armor more like gray patches. Shiny metal would spoil the hide.
