I had painted the Sered figure previously. I painted it mostly like the model they display on their site.
When I started a campaign for the Temple of Elemental Evil, I made an Aasimer Cleric of Bahumut. The concept of a cleric of the platinum dragon was always one that I thought would be worth playing.
Shortly after starting the campaign, I got another figure and I wanted to make the figure closer to the idea of who Aurus was. I decided to drop the big seal in the original Sered figure and replaced it with a cross from the Reaper figure. I also shorted the pick quite a bit and pointed the blade forward .
The colors were difficult. There is not a lot of data on Bahumut. Most of his followers are dragons and there are no real churches. His holy symbol was a dark blue field with white stars.
Looking at the figure, I noticed three layers of the armor plates. I decided for the bottom layer to be painted steel, representing the protective nature of the armor. On top of that, I painted the dark blue layer to represent the blue night sky. As a reference to the stars in Bahumut's holy symbol, the trim and decorations were painted in an iridescent white.
For the base, I used glass tiles from Michael's and painted gold borders and crosses on the surface.
